What I've Been Enjoying Lately

Books:
I've been getting back to the library again!  Click on each cover to learn more.

Creative and captivating

An unbelievable true story told without self-pity

I didn't realize until I was almost finished
that this book is based on a true story,
involving one of the most famous artists
in Japanese history.

Fun:

I'm not sure what this is, growing up from a submerged branch...

...but it's really cool-looking...

(some kind of chestnut?)

...and it attracted some iridescently psychedelic insects.

It's really too bad I couldn't capture the iridescence on these--I've never seen anything like 'em.

Sunday, Miss Chef joined me for a second trip up and down the Catawba.  She's been wanting to try those paddleboards out!

I got a kayak, but we stopped to swim in the river for a little bit, and I tried the paddleboard too.  It's harder than it looks!  I managed to stand up and get down a couple of times without falling, and paddled in circles for a few minutes.  But I think I'll stick to my kayaks.  Miss Chef, on the other hand, may be a paddleboard convert.

and finally...Food:

Miss Chef declared this omelette better...not perfect by a long shot, but better.  Notice she made me eat vegetables for breakfast?  I may be regretting all these weekends together, if this keeps up!

    1. That is so weird...I was thinking this morning that I wanted to add "Movie" and mention we saw and enjoyed Hope Springs. I've changed my mind about coming to pick you up...you just creeped me out!

  2. I enjoyed the way you inserted links for the books. Have you read Amy Tan's book, "The Bonesetter's Daughter"?

I'd love to try paddle boarding! It looks peaceful and relaxing, but I'd probably be flailing around and swearing.

    1. No, I don't think I've read that one. I should probably add that to my list, huh? I find kayaking much more relaxing, since you don't have to worry about falling ass over teakettle the whole time!

  3. Girl, you be having fun! If that were I on that paddleboard, I would have drowned. That's how graceful I am.

    1. Miss Chef says falling off was the best thing she did to figure it out. I didn't stay on long enough to find out.

  4. Some interesting books you have mentioned there. I'm almost at the end of my stack and like to hear recommendations from others.

The omelette looks fantastic, vegetables and all :)

Hope Rosie is all better by now.

    1. Just last night Miss Chef thanked me for "fixing Rosie's pee-pee." :) I'm glad she's done with the pills, they made her breath smell funny.

  5. (1) I love finding out what other people are reading, and your selections are so interesting! The scrapbook book looks fascinating - I'm definitely going to see if I can get my hands on a copy. (Don't you just love libraries?!)

    (2) Please let us know if you find out what the heck that chestnut tree is...

    (3) Please, can I come over for breakfast?

    1. I wish I could get Miss Chef to turn to the library instead of Amazon. Our house is filling up with books!

  6. That flower thingy was gorgeous!

I've seen paddle boarder dudes but I'm much too lazy to stand the entire time.

    1. I know, my legs were tired after a minute! Why stand when you can sit, right?

Thanks for dropping by--please share your thoughts!

"Every time we get comment mail, Rosie wags her tail!" (Seriously, you should see that puffy thing go.)
